Projects: Pick one of the following assignments as a guide. Make sure you are pushing your work to be fresh, engaging and addressing the issues of Children’s Literature that you believe great Children’s Literature addresses. Proper grammar and stimulating presentation of the work make up a large part of your grade. The assignment should look like something you did, not a generic assignment done for a grade. Creative Options: 1. Create a modern picture book, Multi-media book, Comic Book or A Song based on a 5-10 age range. Pictures should be drawn are creatively collaged. (No stock Internet photos.) Your final upload should be as a Powerpoint, and be presented to read as a children’s book wood. 2. Using symbolism, a moral or modern day issue (not bullying), write a children’s book for kids ages 5-10. Make sure you use age related language, images or wording that is appropriate and engaging and upload it as a Powerpoint or Prezi. 3. Write a story or retell a childhood favorite with a modern scope, focusing on the symbolism of the piece. Academic: (For My Education Majors; If you don’t know how to write a lesson plan, this is not for you.) Come up with a lesson Plan 4. Create a lesson plan on a children’s book. Try it on a group of kids within the 5-10 range. (Family? Friends?) What are the objectives and outcomes? 5. Write an academic paper breaking down a picture book symbolically, historically or psychologically. Accompany it with a Power Point. 6. Write a research paper based on a modern day’s children’s book author. Accompany it with a Power Point presentation for the class.
