DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH

July 29, 2024/0 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Admin

Choose one of the five determinants other than individual behavior (as we are all aware of how individual behavior impacts health). In your post, describe this determinant and its importance. Chose Health Services to be my focus determinant of health. Health care services means the furnishing of medicine, medical or surgical treatment, nursing, hospital service, dental service, optometrical service, or any or all of the enumerated services or any other necessary services of like character, whether or not contingent upon sickness or personal injury, as well as the furnishing to any person of any and all other services; such as delivery of meals or meal preparation, assist with devices like a walker, recuperating a patient at home, and assisting to doctor visits, and goods for the purpose of preventing, alleviating, curing or healing human illness, physical disability or injury (Oregon law, 2017). Access to comprehensive, quality health care services is important for promoting and maintaining health, preventing and managing the disease, reducing unnecessary disability and premature death, and achieving health equity for all Americans (Healthy People.com editors, n.d.) According to the World Health Organization, discussing health service delivery systems, people-centered care encompasses these clinical encounters and includes attention to the health of people in their communities and their crucial role in shaping health policy and health services” (World Health Organization, N.D,). Discuss how a community health nurse (CHN) could use one of the 17 intervention categories from the Public Health Intervention Wheel to address this determinant (Nies & McEwen, 2019). A community health nurse could use screening as a community-level intervention for health services. Screening identifies individuals with unrecognized health risk factors or asymptomatic disease conditions. Community-level intervention would be a public health nurse working with area high schools to give each student a profile of his or her health to promote nutritional and physical activity lifestyle changes to improve the student’s health (Nies & McEwen, 2019 p15). .
