Culture of conformity
For this paper you are asked to engage J.D. Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye with other course materials – namely lecture and SFA readings. In many ways Holden Caufield represents a growing discontent with 1950 America’s “culture of conformity.” How is this so? In answering this you need to discuss the establishment of a post-war U.S. that accounts for this “culture of conformity” and place the Salinger narrative in this context.
