Culture Case Study
In your analysis of the case study, you will want to identify the problem and the three most probable causes of the problem from a cultural perspective. It will be helpful to consider the overall context in which intercultural communication occurs (i.e., cultural, microcultural, environmental, and sociorelational). To demonstrate your understanding of the material presented in the class, be sure to incorporate any dimensions of culture, including key concepts and principles, which you believe are the most influential factors relative to their impact on the difference in perception. Finally, you will want to propose a more effective method of handling the situation for the meeting facilitator. In other words, how could she have more effectively addressed Masanori’s late input, knowing Masanori comes from the Japanese culture? Be sure to include answers to these questions in your response: From an intercultural communication perspective, describe what happened. What is the problem? What accounts for this cultural misunderstanding? What beliefs or values underlie Masanori’s behavior and the differences in reactions?
