DESCRIPTION: Students must first give a brief but thorough explanation (legal definition, perpetrators, victims, etc.) of homocide (10pts) EXAMPLE: Then students must find an example of this type of crime using a CURRENT EVENT (not an example in the textbook) – use and cite at least THREE (3) sources to get a complete picture of the crime (Democracy Now, NPR, Fox News, CNN, NBC, ABC, PBS, as well as shows like 20/20, Dateline, and 60 minutes, etc.). Students may choose to include links to a news clip, music video, commercial, scene from a movie, etc. to help explain the type of crime (all clips MUST be PG-13 and closed captioned). ALL SOURCES MUST BE CITED. (10pts) THEORY: Students must analyze this crime using at least TWO (2) theories. They can be the same theories from the reflections or new theories if you feel that another theory works better. Students will use ONE theory to explain the crime, and a SECOND theory to critique the first theory. You will also use a minimum of SIX (6) concepts to aid in the application of the theories to the social problem. (20pts) CURRENT CONTROL: Then you will offer information about how society CURRENTLY attempts to control this type of crime (laws, public service organizations, etc.). You will add your suggestions for improvements (policy, social change, etc.) in controlling this type of crime. (5pts) CRITIQUE: A critique of these laws and policies, and proposed solutions for improvement. (5pts)
