CONSUMER AGENCY REPORT
TOPICS SELECTED BY: February 25, 2019 REPORTS DUE BY: April 8, 2019 Each student must prepare a report on an agency that handles consumer complaints. Completion of the consumer agency report is mandatory. Agencies that may be selected include governmental (state, federal, city or county), business consumer affair departments, or public service groups. If you do not select a topic by February 25, 2019 you will be assigned a topic. Once you have selected an agency, you should contact the agency and request information concerning the handling of consumer complaints. If possible, you might want to speak directly with the person who handles consumer complaints. Your report should include: (a) Background on the agency, i.e. when and why it started, (b) Type of complaints handled by the agency, (c) Procedures for filing complaints with agency, (d) How complaints are mediated, resolved, etc., and, (e) Your opinion on whether consumers who use the agency will receive any type of results. Reports should be typewritten; double-spaced and should be no more than ten and no less than four pages. Do not copy information directly from agency information, including from websites, printed materials, brochures, etc. As this is a consumer law course, it is important that your report include how the agency handles consumer complaints and your insight on the complaint process.
