Concept on conformity in group situations
Task, design an experimental study (study designed to access cause-and-effect) to test how group situations influence conformity. The designed experiment must address this question. Experiment does not have to be carried out, but the procedure section must be written out in the past tense. Method section must follow the APA guidelines and must not be written in bullet point or as a list. Properly structured paragraphs and complete sentences must be used. the report needs to have the following sections: Report Structure: Title – reflect what the experiment is reflecting. Aims and hypothesis – produce an account of the research proposal which outlines the purpose of the study and set out clearly the aims of the experiment and the hypothesis. Do not have to state a null hypothesis. (9 marks/300 words/can demonstrate how to produce a psychology research report with appropriate content and format) Method – this section of the report should contain sufficient information to allow full and accurate replication of the experiment and should also include a consideration of ethical issues applicable to the design. It should include the following sub-sections: 1) Design – Include the type of experimental design chosen and why. For example, independent groups design, matched pairs. Provide a full account of why the study has been designed this way. Provide detail of the independent variable, dependent variable and operationalise the variables. Discuss any controls implemented, for example extraneous variables that need to be controlled/counterbalanced. Consider any strengths /limitations in the design and any relevant ethical issues. 2) Participants – In this section state the intended target population and your sampling methodology, for example, opportunity sampling. Justify your choices, considering strengths/ limitations that they bring to the experiment. Provide an account of how many participants you would include and what age/gender. Reflect on any ethical issues. 3) Materials – Here you need to describe the materials used, examples, word list, paper, pens etc… Do not simply list them. in your description provide an overview of how you developed the test materials for your experiment. 4) Procedure – In this section you are aiming to provide enough description of the procedure to allow for replication. Outline how the experiment commenced, instructions given to participants, de-briefing, controls and timings. (15 marks total here, largest single marks awarded, most important part of the research report/ 900 words. This section is to demonstrate that as a student I can produce a psychology research report with appropriate content and format, as well as , examine practical and ethical issues associated with the use of different methodologies, paradigms and methods of analysis in psychology) Discussion – This section should include a conclusion of your research report which examines the key practical and ethical issues raised by your study. (9 marks/ 300 words/demonstrate can examine practical and ethical issues associated with the use of different methodologies, paradigms and methods of analysis in psychology). Explain /demonstrate the usefulness of your study and why it is so great. References – This section should provide references for all of the sources that you cited in the previous sections of the research report. APA referencing method must be used. The references section will not count towards the word limit. You must underpin your analysis and evaluation of the key issues with appropriate and wide ranging academic research and ensure this is referenced using APA system. Word count – the word count excludes executive summary, tables, figures, diagrams, footnotes, reference list and appendices. Where assessment questions have been reprinted from assessment brief these will also be excluded from the word count. ALL other printed words are included in the word count.
