Chi-Square

July 28, 2024/0 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Admin

This assignment has multiple parts. Please review the instructions carefully and ensure that you address all of the components. You will use the data from one of the datasets provided on BlackBoard. Recall from class that the chi-square test is used to determine whether there is a significant difference between the expected frequencies and the observed frequencies in one or more categories. The chi- square test is one of the few inferential statistics that uses nominal or ordinal level data. Remember that you can take a variable measured at the interval or ratio level and turn it into a nominal or ordinal level variable. In chi-square you do not want to work with more that about three or four levels of each variable. Here are your specific tasks: 1. Choose two nominal and/or ordinal level variables that you think might be related in some way. a. State a null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis about this suspected relationship. [If you are not comfortable stating these hypotheses then just tell me what you think the relationship is – describe it.] b. Run the appropriate descriptive statistics for the two variables. c. Run and present the chi-square analysis (in table format). d. Discuss the results of the chi-square test. Did you reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis? [Alternatively, were the results what you expected?] Interpret the results (i.e., what do the results mean). Please provide a detailed interpretation of the results. What conclusions can you draw? What would you tell the organisation to do or not do based on your results (i.e., the College if you analysed the healthy food data or an Organisation such as a hotel, restaurant, et cetera if you analysed the employee motivation and turnover data). This section should be at least half a page to a full page. 2. Choose a nominal or ordinal variable and a variable at the interval or ratio level that you think might be related in some way. a. State a null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis about this suspected relationship. [If you are not comfortable stating these hypotheses then just tell me what you think the relationship is – describe it.] b. Convert the interval or ratio level variable into an ordinal level measure. You should have no more than three levels of the converted variable. c. Run the appropriate descriptive statistics for the two variables. d. Discuss the results of the chi-square test. Did you reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis? Interpret the results (i.e., what do the results mean). Be sure that your tables are complete – properly labelled, titled, and include all the relevant information.
