Carbohydrate and lipid metabolism
Your task is to explain the following using your knowledge of lipid metabolism; consider regulation, important steps and notable enzymes in your answer. 1. Describe how the fat stored in adipose tissue can be mobilised in preparation for generating energy (ATP). 2. Before a fatty acid is used as the input for beta-oxidation, it must be activated and move from the cytosol into the mitochondria. Firstly, explain how the fatty acid is activated and secondly explain how the activate fatty acid is transported into the mitochondrial matrix. 3. Describehowthebreakdownofthefattyacidinbeta-oxidationleadstotheproductionof a large amount of ATP (Note: describe multiple metabolic reactions). 4. Describe the metabolic reaction of Ketogenesis. What is the input and where does it come from? What is the output of the reaction? What is the significance of Ketogenesis? Need to cite primary reference for this task. 5. Explain why untreated diabetics are prone to developing ketosis and ketoacidosis, where an excessive amount of ketone bodies are present in the blood. Need to cite primary reference for this
