Assessing and Developing Talent using Lumina Spark & Type Coach
Lumina Spark & Type Coach are the two tools, compare and contrast. Title page • Content page • Executive summary • Introduction to the report • Main body/literature review • Critical Analysis of specific tools (under investigation) • Findings/Conclusions • Recommendations • Appendices AN INTRODUCTION TO YOUR REPORT: This introduces what your report will be about, including the ‘question’ that you are aiming to answer and how you are going to investigate it. MAIN BODY/LITERATURE REVEIW: This is where you would begin with a general discussion exploring what psychometric tools are, including an understanding of what personality is and individual differences and these are studied in a general sense. Then how psychometric tools are used to measure some individual differences and how an understanding of these helps organisations especially when developing individuals in the workplace. This then should lead into a discussion about the two tools you are going to ‘critically analyse’ (type coach and lumina spark), and how you are going to compare and contrast each one, within the workplace and in terms of their usefulness in developing people and understanding behaviour and performance at work This is NOT a step by step description of what you did in the sessions but a demonstration of your deeper understanding of how the each tool can be used (pros/cons/strengths/weaknesses/ reliability/ validity/etc) as part of developing individuals at work, whether within a department, small project groups or small companies etc) You would break your main body discussion into paragraphs and you are expected to demonstrate an ability to ‘apply’ the theory! SUB-TITLES :(These will be up to you and depending on the direction of your discussion This is where you research/explore/investigate/demonstrate an understanding of 1. What psychometrics are in general a. Show some understanding of what they are and what their purpose is b. How reliable they are and their validity according to the research 2. You are also expected to demonstrate an understand of PERSONALITY /INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES (as this is what they aim to measure) a. In discussing personality what aspects are these tools tapping into? b. How beneficial is this information to understanding how people interact? c. How will organisations use these? CRITICALLY ANALYSE THE TOOLS: 3. This should direct your critical analytical discussion towards the ‘specifics’ a. Which two tools you are focusing your discussion on? b. Compare and contrast each one (strengths/limitations/ pros/cons etc) c. The reliability and validity of each tool (and demonstrate your understanding that these tools have high reliability and validity it is not a question of yes or no but to what extent…) d. What is the underpinning personality theory of each tool? What theory supports each tool? e. In discussing the tools, you can use elements of the tools (as you have carried these out) as appendices and as examples in your discussion (which you will discuss in your report) f. Consider in which situation one might be more effective than then other or are they both as effective as one another? g. How can organisations use these tools to develop individuals h. Consider ethical issues and best practice FINDINGS/CONCLUSIONS: Conclusions you draw on the basis of your critical analysis and findings As a result of the discussion what are your findings and what conclusions can you draw? Based on your discussion and the analysis, what are your conclusions about using Tool A and Tool B? Are they as effective in any situations, are there situations A would be more effective than B
