A) includes an original idea or a unique and thoughtful response to a posted question/main assignment; B) is well-written and in excess of 300 words (but does not exceed 500 words, exclusive of citations); and C) includes at least two (2) citations from reputable, i.e., scholarly, sources (at least one of these sources must be one of the assigned texts/articles from the module, while the other must be from a verifiable and valid academic resource). See “A Guide to Research” for more information on locating such sources. ***Citation of encyclopedias (including Britannica and Encarta), unauthored web sites, Wikipedia, or Wikipedia-like sources is NOT permitted in the Discussion Forum. “Common knowledge” sites, such as the CIA Factbook or other sites that detail statistical information, may be accessed, but need not be cited (nor will they count towards the citation requirement).*** Viable sources include your textbook, assigned readings, reputable magazine and/or journal articles, and authored web sites (citations are required when paraphrasing or making direct quotes). You may choose to visit an encyclopedia site or Wikipedia to gain a background understanding of the issue, but you may NOT use Wikipedia for citations. Such posts will be “unapproved,” with no credit given. Posts which are more than 25% copied and pasted from other types of (cited) sources are unacceptable and will be “unapproved,” with no credit given.
