Accuracy of media depictions of psychotherapy and psychopathology.
1.Analyze depictions of the identification and treatment of abnormal behavior in media sources. “I have observed that several psychological commercials depict sadness, use darker colors, use negative words, and present a negative environment in the beginning. The individual/s on the screen appear sad, wear dark colors, seclude themselves, and exhibit poor behaviors. The dialog is discussing negative symptoms a person may be exhibiting. Then there are a few seconds of what I like to call the “transition period” on screen. The individual/s start taking the medication. They appear to start to come “out of their shell” so to speak. The lighting starts to get brighter. The clothing becomes lighter. The dialog is about the dosage, how it can help, discounts, and how to obtain the medication. Towards the end of the commercial the individual/s is fully included in whatever function is occurring. They are in bright clothing. They are surrounding by other people. They are happy and enjoying themselves. The lighting is bright. The dialog is discussing positive behaviors and how the medications is the cause of them. Then there is usually an image in the background of the people that are blurred. The medication is presented clearly in the front of them. Various information is displayed on the screen. Some information is unable to be read because it is so small. The dialog is about the side effects. Then there is usually a catch phrase followed by the benefits. I realized the finally dialog is along the lines of: Ask your doctor about ____. 2.Consider and comment on the consequences of accurate and inaccurate depictions of mental health conditions in popular media The positive effects of media and psychological disorders is helping individuals.
