Why Explore Storytelling in Business.
Most of the time we think about business writing, we think about it being facts, statistics, data, etc. Some of my students describe it as “dry”–but that isn’t meant to be a bad thing, necessarily. However, in this introduction to his book, Forman makes a case for storytelling in business writing, claiming that it does have a place and that business writing doesn’t have to be stereotypical. What are your thoughts on this approach to business writing? When do you think you may incorporate this style in your field (or have seen others incorporate it)? When would this maybe be a bad idea? Why? What examples of Forman’s were particularly compelling? Explain.
