Nursing Leadership- Organizational Culture Concept Map

July 29, 2024/0 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Admin

Background Information: Concept maps are graphical tools used to organize and represent knowledge. Concept maps were developed in 1972 in the course of Novak’s research program at Cornell (Novak & Musonda, 1991). Concept maps include concepts, usually enclosed in circles or boxes of some type, and relationships between concepts indicated by a connecting line linking two or more concepts. Most concepts maps are quite elaborative and are not meant to be static. Maps are intended to show growth or change over time. Concepts should be represented in a hierarchical fashion with the most general concepts at the top of the map and the more specific, less general concepts arranged hierarchically below. It is best to construct concept maps with reference to the focus question. The concept map may pertain to some situation or event that we are trying to understand through the organization of knowledge in the form of a concept map, thus providing the context for the concept map. There are a couple of features of concept maps that are important in the facilitation of creative thinking. The hierarchical structure that is represented along with the ability to search for and characterize new cross-links. Specific examples of events or objects that help to clarify the meaning of a given concept are also represented. Normally these are not included in ovals or boxes since they are specific events or objects and do not represent concepts. Creation is original based upon your understanding of the information. Assignment Instructions: Review the table template and concept map samples attached in the document below these instructions. After reviewing the template and samples, identify the characteristics of leaders and managers from this week’s reading to add to both columns. Add at least 5 or 6 characteristics to each side. Create a concept map in Microsoft Word or PowerPoint that is a visual representation of the characteristics discussed in the table. Chose 1-2 characteristics from the table and reflect on how they are displayed in healthcare leadership as well as how you would incorporate them as a best practice in your future leadership roles. Submit the completed table, concept map, and characteristics reflection discussion to the assignment drop box. Be sure to cite all resources appropriately.
