Buddhism Essay Questions When answering these essay questions please do the following three things: 1. Answer ALL elements of the question. If the question has two or three parts, be sure to answer every part of the prompt. 2. Refer to the texts and videos we have used this term–but do so IN YOUR OWN WORDS. 3. Give examples to illustrate your understanding. It is not enough to simply explain the concept or idea in the prompt, you should give examples to show that you have a solid understanding of the material. I have posted some good model responses to essay questions from past semesters. Please look at them to help you understand what is expected if you hope to do well on this assignment. Please pay attention to the due date as provided in the announcement for this assignment. Please answer the following questions: 1. What are the four noble truths? Give an example of suffering from every day life and show how the four noble truths explain it. (1,000 words) 2. What are the elements of the 8-fold path? Explain and give a brief example for each on on how a Buddhist would practice it. (1,500 words) 3. What is the main point of Ajahn Brahm’s teaching about his wall? Do not quote, paraphrase, copy, or borrow anything in answering the essay questions. The writing needs to be your own. If more than 20% of the material you turn in comes from any other source, you will get no higher than 50% on the assignment. Do not quote. Do not paraphrase. (Not even if you think you are properly citing it). I want you to write ALL or almost all of your responses entirely in your own words. The point of these assignments is to make you write about the material in your own words. I do NOT want you to use anyone else’s words at all.
