Thank you In 2002, my mother was diagnosed with cancer, but it had already spread throughout her body; it was too late, and she passed away. Screening tests could have caught the cancer early and possibly saved her life. For this reason, informing people about the importance of screening tests is imperative. In one of my classes we have been discussing how cancer occurs and the different methods that can be used to detect it early on. This brought me to think about my mother and how much of a difference screening her for cancer could have made. This topic is important for the future because it can save the life of a lot of people by doing early treatment or surgery. While I am aware of the presence of screening tests, I want to learn more about the different kinds there exists. This can be helpful because I can eventually discuss these different options with family members and friends. Thesis statement: Screening tests can save a person’s life by detecting the disease early and providing treatment. Literature Review 06/18/2019 In the year 2018, a group of American clinicians conducted a test-based investigation for the early detection of prostate cancer, demonstrating that many of the patients who underwent blood and molecular tests tested positive for prostate cancer and in early stage. Also, in the study conducted suggested that it is very important to inform people and established that men after 45 years should be performed all relevant tests. The 2018 NCCN Guidelines for Prostate Cancer Early Detection continue to support early detection in well-informed healthy men. Carroll, P. H., & Mohler, J. L. (2018). NCCN guidelines updates: prostate cancer and prostate cancer early detection. Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, 16(5S), 620-623. Shawn Allen, in his research article emphasizes the importance of screening tests to detect melanoma at an early stage since this is a deadly cancer if detected at an advanced stage, emphasizing that the American Cancer Association has many programs to detect breast and prostate cancer but very few for melanoma. He concludes in his article that patients could be saved or better lives only by doctors doing a visual check on the skin to all their patients and that this should be taken as prevention. Shawn, A. (2019). Melanoma Screening Saves Lives (Vol. 27, Ser. 3). THE SKIN CANCER FOUNDATION. According to an important group of doctors from the United States, the objective of this research is to detect breast cancers when they are still curable to reduce the specific mortality of breast cancer. The screening for breast cancer in the United States is routinely performed with mammography, complementary digital breast tomosynthesis, ultrasound and / or MRI. This has shown that the late detection of said cancer has diminished considerably. Niell, B., Freer, P., Weinfurtner, R., Arleo, E., & Drukteinis, J. (n.d.). Screening for Breast Cancer. doi:10.1016/j.rcl.2017.06.004 Other research published in December 2015 explains how screening tests performed on a large group of patients helped detect ovarian cancer at an early stage. With the sole fact of mixing multimodal statagia using the Ca125 biomarker combined with ultrasound as a secondary test and using ultrasound comparing these data with a group that had not been subjected to these exams, it was concluded that a statistically significant reduction in mortality. Pavlik, E. J. (2016). Ovarian cancer screening effectiveness: A realization from the UK Collaborative Trial of Ovarian Cancer Screening. Women’s Health, 475 -479. The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be approximately 224,000 new cases and 158,000 deaths from lung cancer if tests are not performed to identify this aggressive cancer at an early age. This article shows researchers using diagnostic tests such as sputum cytology, chest X-ray and CT scans, thus reducing mortality by 20% and increasing the number of treatments to combat said cancer and lengthen the life expectancy of patients. Midthun D. E. (2016). Early detection of lung cancer. F1000Research, 5, F1000 Faculty Rev-739. doi:10.12688/f1000research.7313.1
