XENOPHOBIA, RELIGIOUS DISCRIMINATION AND OPPRESSION.
1. How have this week’s resources shaped your own understanding of xenophobia? 2. After completing the entire refugee simulation and listening to the assigned podcasts (http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-32057601), A: what did you learn? B: What is the difference between immigrants and refugees, C: what is the NASW stance on either/both? 3. I’m a Muslim, I don’t practice it, I do cerebrate charismas and every holiday in America. If you grew up in a religion that centered around Christ, or currently espouse this belief system: Discuss the ways that you, as part of the religious majority, have privilege. For instance, as a person living in America, everyone knows the two biggest Christian holidays (Christmas and Easter), and can name traditions associated with them. Can you name two major holidays for any other religion, and their traditions (without googling them)? If you grew up as part of a religious minority in America (such as Atheism or Judaism or Buddhism), or currently espouse this belief system, discuss the ways that you experienced or currently experience being a religious minority. 4.
