A 34-year-old African-American woman who is 28 weeks pregnant with her second child is seen in your office today for her routine obstetric visit. She has no significant past medical history. She is without complaints and reports good fetal movement. Her past obstetric history includes a full-term normal spontaneous vaginal delivery. Her family history is significant for hypertension and diabetes mellitus. Her 1-hour glucose tolerance test is performed and returns at 159 mg/dL. What would your next step in evaluation and treatment be for this patient? What medication would you prescribe? How much? Write a prescription using the template. Discuss in one to two paragraphs using your text book as your reference all evidence supporting or avoiding the drug you will be prescribing or not prescribing. Discuss alternate medications as well.
