OR ◦Examine the causes of why confirmation bias happens and analyze the effects of confirmation bias on individuals and on American society. 2. In order to write this essay, you will use the material you read in this unit to develop your own analysis. 1.You can build on the ideas you developed for the discussion. You can also use the perspectives you gained from your peers’ ideas. 2.In your essay, you must use information from at least TWO of the articles you have read about your topic. You can use information from these any number of times as evidence and/or to support your points. 3.In this essay, I prefer that you not use sources other than the ones I have provided in UNIT 3: READINGS & RESOURCES. However, if you must use other sources, make sure that they are credible, academic sources. 4.This essay must be in third person perspective. •Does the essay have an interesting and suitable title? •Does the essay have a catchy introduction that is related to the central focus of the essay •Does the essay have a clear thesis at the end of the introduction, and does it clearly state the key three ideas–one cause and two effects or one effect and two causes? •Is the whole essay focused on the thesis? •Does each paragraph in the essay begin with a topic sentence that relates to the key ideas in the thesis? •Has the information in each key idea been carefully organized in sub points? •Do the sub points follow the organization of S (statement); E (evidence); and X (explanation)? •Has the evidence from the sources (the topic articles) been well integrated in the essay, using signal phrases and in-text citations? •Does the evidence support the idea and is it relevant to the idea? •Has each main idea been concluded by connecting it to the topic sentences and to the thesis? •Is your explanation/analysis of each point fully developed, examining all of the issues that raise questions of why and how, etc.? •Have you a kept a focus on the topic sentence in your explanation? •Does the essay have a good conclusion that ties up all the points and takes the reader to a new understanding of the topic? •Have you included a Work Cited page, and is it accurately formatted? •Have your proofread the essay to make sure it does not have errors in grammar, spelling, and punctuation? •Does your essay have proper MLA format? ◦You must use MLA documentation properly so that you do not plagiarize.
