Developmental Observations Objective
Assignment: Developmental Observations Objective: Students will have the opportunity to observe 3 individuals in their natural setting (home, work, school etc.). Students must meet with 3 individuals on 3 separate occasions for 30 minutes – 1 full hour. 1. Assignment should be written in Times New Roman, 12-font, double-spaced, style (no spacing). 2. Each student is expected to observe 3 individuals and write a one page paper for each observation based on their findings. The interview should be about 30 minutes to 1 hour. The interviewer (you) should observe the interviewee (client) in his/her natural setting and record findings from that observation. You must choose your 3 subjects from the following stages of development: early childhood (2-9), middle years (10-12), adolescent years (13-20), young adult years (20-40), middle-age adult years (40-60), young-old adult years (60-80), and old-old adult years (80 +). During the interview the student will assess the social, cognitive, socio-emotional, etc., developmental levels and functioning of the individual. The student will also describe the person’s current period of development as well as any developmental milestones, delays or problems experienced during their life span. Please do not use family members. NOTE: Your clients must be in different developmental stages. Summarize both findings and experiences related to this project in a 3 page, typed-12 font, Times New Roman, double-spaced paper, style (no spacing). This is a casual, brief typed paper – NOT APA style. 3. Students should complete the Observation Form (see below) for each client observation and upload each form with the completed assignment. Points will be deducted if you fail to upload each Observation Form. (Note: I have the forms, just make sure that I have the Client Name, Visit Date, Natural Setting, Developmental Stage and Age, Arrival Time and Ending Time. ) 4. NOTE: Each client’s written report should appear on a new sheet. You should indicate the client’s first name only and the stage of development at the top center of the page. Then, indent and proceed with your written observation.
