“THOMAS SUMTER” of South Carolina

 RESEARCH/WRITING COMPONENT: ALL Students will write an essay on the following topic: “THOMAS SUMTER” of South Carolina – (Focus your paper on his “political” career. Do NOT write a “biographical” paper or a “summary” of his life. This assignment will constitute 10% of your course grade. The essay will be due on Saturday of Week Eight. The following are the guidelines for the essay: Your essay must be a minimum of 5 typed (double spaced) pages, NOT including the title page and reference page. You must have a separate title page and a separate Reference page (list of references/sources used). You must use at least three sources for your essay. One of these can be our textbook. However, you must use at least TWO additional sources. Do NOT use “encyclopedias” (such as Wikipedia, ) as a source! You should also not use websites such as “info.com” ask.com, etc. These will NOT be allowed! You should use academic sources such as journal articles and monographs (books). The use of material from websites whose address end in .edu, .gov, or .org are acceptable. You must use theTurabian style and format. Make sure that you use “Endnotes” and “Bibliography” style.
