This the introduction for a thesis. Group conflict theory is tested in a UK setting. The intro needs to cover the following subsections: explanation of group conflict theory (Blumer 1958); conflict theory and punitiveness on immigrants; conflict theory and culpability of immigrants; section of current immigration attitudes in the UK and CJS (Magistrate courts – lay people; and Crown court – juries – implication). 3 hypotheses are to be derived: EE seen more culpable, EE punished harsher; no difference in punishment when controlled for immigration attitudes. There is a list of references to be used, it needs expanding
