Analysis is on the show “The Office” (the U.S. version) The paper should be written in Times New Roman font, 12 pt., double-spaced with 1” margins. Total page length will not include headings, titles, or other such space fillers. The paper should briefly summarize the show and its unique contribution when compared to other shows in existence. What made it unique? What made it popular? Explain what contributions you believe this show made to television as a whole and culture as a whole. What made it worth of a spot in the top 100? Do you agree or disagree with that assessment? Why? Name one show that you think should be listed but is not. Why should it be there? This should comprise roughly one page. Next, you should identify how it impacted culture. How does it handle social issues of the day? Does it counter or reinforce certain stereotypes? What (if any) is the role of sex or violence in the show? If present, explain how or why it is present. What other issues from class (race, class, sports, religion, children/learning in media) does the show incorporate? This should be about one page as well. You then need to address what theories discussed in class seem to be at work in the show. Cultivation? Agenda-setting? Social learning theory? Priming? Framing? Etc. Further, what effects do you believe this show is likely to leave its audience? Why? Finally, address who the audience is for this show, and try to back this up with your own research on the show. This should also last about one page. Finally, you should conduct an informal interview with three viewers or fans of this particular show (past or present). Ask them why they think they viewed the show, what they liked about it, and what they thought made it unique from other shows. Summarizes their responses in about a page.
