Modern Organizations Technology Final Project

 Final Project Details Modern organizations benefit from using technology to innovate and develop new products or services. For this final project, you will write a paper and select an organization that uses an application on a smartphone as part of its information system OR describe a fictional organization’s information system and app. This app may be used, for example, by end users who are communicating with each other, or to collect or store data. If using a real organization, you should research this company as an information system and how the app plays a role. If creating a fictional organization, you should create a backstory for this organization and identify the pieces of the informational system. If choosing the latter, this is your chance to put down on paper the idea you may have had for a useful app and to think about how it may fit into an information system. As an example in the real world, consider a dating project such as eHarmony. How do people, hardware, software, communication/networks, data resources, and policies and procedures come together in this information system? Now consider that the company has recently introduced an app for its users, so they can quickly provide information (their dating profiles) to be added to the database, as well as display the feedback the users are receiving about their matches. How is this app enhancing the company and the experience it is providing for its customers? For a fictional example, this is an opportunity for you to flesh out an app that you may have been thinking about creating. You will first need to describe a fictional information system: the people, hardware, software, etc to make a backstory. Provide enough details for the organization, and consider how an app could be used to enhance the information system and organization. For this paper, you will research an organization with a developed app that is currently available to users on a smartphone device, or if fictional, you will provide details about this fictional organization and app. Your paper’s content should include: 1) A general definition and description of an information system 2) A general description of the organization you are choosing and what it does OR a backstory for your fictional organization and what it does 3) An outline of an information system used by this (real or fictional) organization. Note that the organization may use multiple categories of information systems, such as enterprise collaboration or expert systems. You may not be able to to have all the details from a real-world company (such as the network layout) but you can write generally. You must include information about each of the following: a) The people, hardware, software, data, and network resources used b) The type of information products produced c) The input, processing, output, storage, and control activities 4) A description of the app, whether real or fictional, and what it does 5) How the technology (in this case, an app) has enhanced the information system and organization The formatting should include: 1) Minimum 8 pages, double spaced, Times New Roman, 12 point font (not including Works Cited page) 2) Works Cited page a) If you are creating a fictional account, you should include your textbook as a cited source, and any other source you may use to base your fictional organization/app on b) If you are using a real organization, you must include the resources you used for your research You will also create a PowerPoint presentation to show the class what you came up with. This presentation will be minimum 6 slides (it can be longer): 1. Title page 2. Description of Organization 3. Description of Information System 4. Description of App 5. Description of how App enhances the Information System 6. Works Cited This project will be due during the last week of class. The paper is due on the last day of class; your presentation will be due on Wednesday of that week.
