The effects of politics on international economy (trade war between the U.S. and China)
Paper details Research Proposal The research will investigate the escalating trade war between the U.S. and China, specifically how politics impacts the international economy and the effects of raised tariffs on Chinese goods. The Trump Administration has been criticized for introducing isolationist policies, such as raising tariffs on Chinese imports, that could produce the adverse effects that the intent behind the tariffs are trying to avoid (Abdulkareem, 2017). As China’s economy has grown and catapulted the nation to a place of international power, the U.S. has approached the situation with caution and has come to view Chinese prominence as a threat to the U.S.’s position on the world stage (Chen & Garcia, 2016). The escalating trade war between the U.S. and China has the potential to create spillover effects on other nations through the World Trade Organization (Hur, 2018). If history is an indicator, the effects will be harmful to global trade and have the most adverse effects on smaller countries (Bhuimali & Chakraborty, 2018).
