Consequences of human impact, economic impact, impact on public confidence, and impact on government capability
682 6-1 Short Paper Overview: In this assignment, you will consider a wide scope of consequences, including human impact, economic impact, impact on public confidence, and impact on government capability. You will apply research and critical thinking to assess the potential consequences of an incident. The questions you need to answer below are from a consequence analysis worksheet, and they will help you determine what your overall risk level is. So far, we have looked at where an incident could occur (asset), who would be likely to create an incident (threat), and how the incident could occur (vulnerability). In Milestone Two, you identified the vulnerability that was most likely to be exploited. You also shared the location of attack, attack scenario, and access point. Using this information, let us examine the potential damage that could occur (consequence) if an attack were successful. Reading: Read Chapter 9 in your textbook. Prompt: To determine the consequence of an attack, you will examine the human impact, economic impact, impact on public confidence, and impact on government capability. First, you will apply research and critical thinking to address the questions listed under each type of impact; answer each question in one to two sentences. Second, you will use your answers to the questions to determine the level of criticality. For answers to some of these questions, review the United States Census Bureau website https://www.census.gov/ local government demographic information, and jurisdictional resources. Examine the human impact: What is the anticipated number of injuries and deaths among employees? What is the anticipated number of injuries or deaths among persons in the community? What is the potential for release, diversion, or theft of hazardous materials? What is the likely impact to the region? Is the target location downstream from any chemical plants? • Examine the economic impact: What is the likely damage to the facility? What is the anticipated damage to equipment? What is the potential for loss of proprietary or confidential information? What is the potential for product contamination? What is the potential for environmental damage? What is the potential for reduction or loss of production at one or multiple sites? Examine the impact on public confidence: What is the potential loss of brand image or customer confidence? (The type of confidence is asset-dependent.) • Examine the impact on government capability: What is the impact on national security? What is the impact on local government? What are the criminal and civil legal liabilities? Determine the level of criticality on a scale of 1 to 10 (with 1 being lowest) based on your responses to the above questions. State the number in your paper. You will use this same number in the Module Six Worksheet. (There is no right or wrong answer. You will fully explain your response in Milestone Three.)
