Reflection of internship

July 29, 2024/0 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Admin

Final Report 1. As a language student, you are expected to have learned something about effective written/spoken communication in your workplace. What were some workplace communication tasks/genres you encountered in your internship? List as many as you can think of and also state the language(s) involved for each of them. (This list should be an updated version of what you put in the Interim Reflections, if you encountered more types of tasks/genres after that.) Examples of written tasks/genres: formal and informal emails, letters, text messaging, forms, reports, agendas, minutes, etc. (written for different readers and with different communicative purposes). Examples of spoken tasks/genres: phone calls for handling enquiries from customers/parents of your students, small talk with colleagues, oral presentations, formal and informal meetings and discussions, language for classroom management, etc. 2. Choose at least two communication tasks/genres from Question 1 above and apply your knowledge of linguistics and your work experience to comment on what makes these tasks/genres effective in your particular workplace. (For example, what is the generic structure and discourse features of the written/spoken texts in question, what are some useful language or strategies, how you can mitigate face-threatening acts, deliver bad news, establish rapport, apply politeness strategies, etc.) Please also state how you learned what you’ve learned and overcame any difficulties that you had encountered. 3. As a language student, what have you learned about professional or workplace communication in general through your internship? You may comment on: • whether you have adequate English skills to handle professional genres in English • the major differences between communicating as a student and communicating as a professional; • the importance of good language and communication skills; • the things that you have learned on your internship that cannot be learned at university; • the things that you have learned on your internship that are different from what you were taught at university and the adjustments you made to suit your company’s specific cultures and practices; • whether you think your professional communication training at university has adequately prepared you for your future communication needs, and if not, what you think you should do before graduation to learn more. 4. Did you do any of the suggested things in the list “10 things to do to get the most out of your WIE”? If yes, please state what and how you learned. If no, please state what actions you took during your internship to help yourself learn. (This question is not restricted to the learning of language and communication skills; you may talk about other work-related skills/knowledge, e.g. how you learned to organize a marketing event or gather information for a project.) 5. Your personal and professional development. You may comment on: • The skills/knowledge you already possess that are useful for your career; • What other skills/knowledge you think you should try to acquire before graduation; • Your plan for personal/professional development.
