Mythology in Advertisement

Prompt: You will need to find 2 different advertisements (NOT COMPANIES) for products that relate to mythology. You need to focus in on the advertisement itself, not necessarily what they are selling or the brand name it is under. Sometimes these will coincide, but the first part of your paper needs to be focused on the use of mythological reference in the ways companies advertise their products, not on the companies themselves (save that for the last part of this paper – see below) Do your best to identify the specific myth(s) being used in the ad and which culture(s) created it. These can be print ads, video ads, digital ads, etc. You must be able to share that ad with me somehow. If its print you’ll need to scan it and attach it to your final paper digitally, if its digital you’ll need to save the image and insert it into your document, if it’s a video, you’ll need to copy and paste the working link into your Works Cited page. In addition to ads, you will also need to find ONE (1) logo for any company. Research that company and their logo and explain how the logo is based in or relates to mythology. Again, do your best to identify the specific myth(s) being used in the logo and which culture(s) created it. Instructions: Write an Introduction that catches my attention with some fun fact or story (probably about a company who I may have never thought of that somehow connects to mythology OR perhaps a general notion of the extent that mythology permeate commercial industries, etc). After that be sure to briefly outline (in 1 or 2 sentences max) the two advertisements and the company logo you’ll be talking about. In the next 2 paragraphs, you’ll need to outline and describe the advertisements you have chosen (one advertisement per paragraph) and explain how they relate to mythology. It could be through the setting of the advertisement, characters within, or perhaps the plot of the advertisement. Whatever it is about the ad, it is your job to tell me how it pertains to mythology. Do your best to identify the specific myth(s) being used in the ad and which culture(s) created it. Connect all of the dots, no matter how simplistic they may seem. In your third paragraph you should tell me which logo (and by proxy, which company) you chose and how the logo relates to mythology. Remember, I’m looking at how the logo relates to mythology, not the company name. Describe the logo in detail and tell me what about that logo connects back to any aspect related to this course. Do your best to identify the specific myth(s) being used in the logo and which culture(s) created it. Furthermore, do some very brief research on the company itself and why it chose that particular idea for their logo design. In your conclusion paragraph, you should wrap up your general ideas by re-writing them (in a different way than you did before) and finish by telling me how mythology still plays a role in contemporary society through advertisement campaigns and company logos to attract people to their products – remember mythologies are often universal, so it makes sense these advertisements and companies would use mythological ideas to attract consumers. Your paper should be organized and written according to academic standards. Your paper should be approximately one to two pages in length, typed, double-spaced. Your paper needs to be formatted according to MLA style. Some of this includes using a 12pt. font and setting 1” margins all the way around
