Minority Ethnic Emerging Filmmakers
Paper details:
Brief — The research project is intended to enhance the historical and theoretical aspects of the course with the analysis of an aspect of contemporary media culture and industry. It should involve an element of empirical research and combine an analysis of contemporary media practice with theorisation. You will develop a question or hypothesis to guide the process of research, and identify a case history, or selected examples, to illustrate and extend the original question. The Hypotheses: To research funding sources and opportunities for young and emerging minority ethnic filmmakers. To understand if there is a disparity between the opportunities for ethnic minority filmmakers and Caucasian/ethnic majority filmmakers. To explore if working in London (inc. Greater London) makes this easier, or to use London as case study. To explore any differences between gender, if any in terms of opportunities/funding sources. Methodology : Questionnaires/ Interview of four minority ethnic filmmakers. These were selected through word of mouth/social circle. Classifying minority ethnic as non-caucasian and emerging filmmaker as someone involved in creative side of film production that has created something that has been recognised by an awarding body, but is not well established as a name. This is subjective. V.L – Male, H.Y – Female, N.G – Female. To create a research report/paper about minority ethnic emerging filmmakers using the questionnaire answers and other secondary sources.
