Child behavioral disorder
Please answer the following questions using material learned in this module through class discussion boards, textbook, readings, or research articles. Make sure you indicate in your answers where the information as from (you don’t need two sources for each question- just as a submission as a whole). It may be necessary for some questions to relate material from the previous modules. As listed in the grading rubric, please make sure to incorporate the research article(s) into your case report in some way. This does not need to be for every question or for every article, but a connection between the research article and case study is necessary. Discussion Questions: 1. What DSM-5 anxiety (or related) disorder best describes Logan’s behavior? What symptoms was Logan exhibiting that brought you to this decision? 2. Logan is a 10th-grade student, perhaps 15 years of age. How might you distinguish between normal and abnormal behavior in this case? 3. Logan seems to have a negative attitude toward his father and his mother. How can parents contribute to the development of anxiety disorders in children? 4. How might a behavior therapist use graded exposure (systematic desensitization) to help Logan address his problem? 5. What cognitive distortions might contribute to Logan’s anxiety problem? How might a cognitive therapist address these distortions? 6. The case study and research articles focus on anxiety but also in this module we learned about trauma and stress-related disorders. In the DSM-IV (previous version of the DSM-5), trauma and PTSD diagnosis were included under anxiety disorders. In the current DSM, trauma and stress-related disorders have been separated out into their class of disorders. Based on your readings, powerpoints, and class discussions, why do you think that mental health experts decided to separate anxiety from trauma and stress-related disorders? When answering this question, it may be helpful to think of the similarities and differences in etiology (causes), symptoms, presentations, and treatments.
