Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)

July 28, 2024/0 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Admin

Overview: In this case study, you will be asked to read a real-world scenario. Then, based on this information and information you gather from outside sources, you will describe how you would diagnose and treat the patient. You will also explore what the potential complications could be if the patient were improperly treated. Case studies are something you will often run across in preparing for and maintaining your healthcare career, as they give you the opportunity to mentally work through a problem before facing it in the real world. This assignment will also help you to understand what you will need to do in your final presentation as it relates to diagnosis and suggested treatment options. Case Study Information: Lynn is a sexually active 15-year-old who lives in a suburban neighborhood with her parents and two younger sisters. She does not confide in her parents about her sexual activities, but rather discusses them with her two best friends in high school, who also are sexually active. Last week, a guest speaker at school discussed the topic of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), which Lynn has thought quite a bit about since the discussion. She has an appointment tomorrow for her annual gynecologic examination and decides to encourage her boyfriend, Alex, to join her. In the privacy of the examination room, Lynn and Alex tell the nurse about their sexual activity and mention that Alex has been experiencing a penile discharge and is concerned that he “may have some disease.” When questioned by the nurse, Lynn states that she has not experienced any vaginal discharge, odor, itching, or painful intercourse. The nurse collaborates with the gynecologist, who prescribes a C. trachomatis point-of-care test for both patients. Prompt: In the form of a short paper, discuss the significance of Lynn and Alex’s clinical manifestations and the incidence of chlamydia. Describe the relationship between Lynn and Alex’s level of growth and development and her risk for an STD. Assuming Lynn’s C. trachomatis point-of-care test is positive, discuss what this finding means. Also describe the common complications associated with Lynn and Alex’s condition and the common treatments. Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed: I. Diagnosis A. Presentation: Describe the clinical manifestations of Lynn and John’s disease. B. Testing: Describe the administered test, and what the results mean. C. Diagnosis: Given the information, provide a detailed diagnosis of this disease and it’s incidence. D. Risk Factors: Discuss the relationship between Lynn and John’s level of growth and development, and their risk for contracting an STD. II. Treatment A. Treatment: Describe how this disease is currently being treated, using available data to support your description. B. Complications: Detail the common complications associated with the improperly treated disease.
