Right and Left Hemisphere of the Brain
Potential differences between the right hemisphere and left hemisphere of the brain has been a popular topic addressed by authors and researchers. Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor is a neuroanatomist who suffered a massive left-hemisphere stroke at age 37. The link to her TED talk is below. Please listen to her talk. https://www.ted.com/talks/jill_bolte_taylor_s_powerful_stroke_of_insight#t-201915 In her talk, Dr. Bolte Taylor describes the differences in processing she experienced with left hemisphere and the right hemisphere of the brain after her stroke. She concludes her talk by suggesting that we all should spend more time thinking through the right hemisphere. Describe a form of thought, emotion, or experience that has been associated with the right hemisphere of the brain. Be sure to include a citation to a journal article that clearly links your thought, emotion or experience to the right hemisphere. Why is the right hemisphere better suited to perform the thought, emotion, or experience you mentioned (or why is the left hemisphere not good for the thought, emotion, or experience)? What method or approach do you think could be used to help us get into to thinking through the right hemisphere of the brain instead of the left (i.e., how do we get the right hemisphere to do more of our thinking)?
