Successful global entrepreneurship
Successful global entrepreneurship
Paper details Please write a concise essay in response to these questions, by using the theoretical framework and perspectives of the course readings and lecture notes. You are welcome to use additional materials beyond the assigned article/s in support of your arguments. The standard for the paper is as follows: 12-point Times New Roman font, 1-inch margin, double-spaced, page-numbered, maximum 2,700 words which is about 9-10 pages in length (double-spaced), and saved as a Word document. References and any exhibits/appendices you deem necessary do not count against this limit. ………………………………… Please read the attached article by Dennis Day and Michael Evans on “10 Key Steps to Expanding your Business Globally” (Forbes, May 4, 2015), also review the material from Sessions 7 and 8 on Global Market Opportunity Assessment and Developing a Global Business Plan, respectively. The underlying argument in all these materials is that success in global business expansion depends heavily on developing a global business strategy and a business plan. Please also read the attached material about Susan Jablon Mosaics. Susan Jablon, a local artist entrepreneur from Binghamton, established her company Susan Jablon Mosaics, LLC in 2000, almost two decades ago. She prides herself of being a very successful entrepreneur. In 2017 she was recognized by the Small Business Administration (SBA), a U.S. federal agency, as a New York State winner of the 2017 SBA Exporter of the Year Award. The material lists key factors for her success. I invited Susan as a guest speaker in my class in Fall 2017.
Her underlying message was: “I have achieved this success without any (global) business plan, and I do not need such a plan in order to be successful.” In your view, is Susan right? She had and is still having a great exposure to customers in the United States and perhaps other countries through her engagement with national TV shows, movies and home design magazines. Would she have been more successful if she had a business plan and a strategy for global expansion? How do we measure not just success but optimal success in international business? In answering this set of questions, you are welcome to compare her success with the success of other global entrepreneurs such as: (1) Aditya Gupta, The Rug Republic, India (attached material); and (2) Matt Scanlan and Diederick Rijsemus, founders of Naadam Cashmire (attached material); (or any other small global entrepreneurship that you know about). What similarities and differences can you observe between these three successful global entrepreneurships? How are you going to rank them in terms of optimal success?
