Childhood Stress and Trauma
For my Umbrella topic: “Childhood Stress and Trauma” And my Sub-title: “Childhood eating disorders” OUTLINE WORKSHEET With your notes and summaries of research articles at hand, answer the following questions about your final paper: 1. What is the purpose of your paper? 2. Who is the audience? 3. What is the thesis of your paper? Then, follow the steps below: BRAINSTORM Read your notes and your summaries/critique of your articles. List all the ideas that you want to include in your paper (keep writing, do not evaluate or worry about spelling, let your ideas flow). This does not have to be linear. You can diagram your ideas in a form you feel most comfortable with. To help yourself brainstorm, answer these questions: 1). What do I want to tell my reader(s)? 2). What is my thesis/argument? 3). How do I support my thesis/argument? For each supporting point, write down as many ideas as possible. Refer to your notes and your summary of research articles if necessary. If you need to think, take some time to think about your ideas before your jot them down. You can use an outline, a tree diagram, or flowchart. DRAFT Now you’re ready to draft your outline. The space below provides a sample outline format where you can plug in your ideas. Here are some tips for creating your outline: 1. Group related ideas together 2. Arrange your ideas in subsections from general to specific, from abstract to concrete, or any logical order 3. Create main and subheadings Thesis: Big Idea! I. General Idea A. Point One 1. Supporting thoughts- citations a. thoughts b. segue to next point 2. Supporting thought- citation a. thoughts b. segue to next point B. Point Two 1. Supporting thoughts- citations a. thoughts b. segue to next point 2. Supporting thought- citation a. thoughts b. segue to next point Repeat the above three more times to create an outline. Conclusion: restate the points and give ideas for creating a solution to the problem outlined in the paper. Now you have the first draft of your outline! You can refine it and develop it into a topic or sentence outline using the guidelines in the workshop. See sample attached.
