Research Paper—there will be one APA style paper due during Week 7. The paper should be ONE disorder that affects individuals sometime throughout childhood and adolescence. Examples of disorders are ADHD, Autism, etc. You do not need to seek approval for your topic, but it has to be something that we cover in the class. There are two topic requirements for the assignment: 1) it must be a disorder 2) there must be a minimum of a half of a page about the topic in the book, not including the appendix, index section, etc. If your topic does not meet both of these requirements, it will result in an automatic zero for the assignment. For this paper, the following will be required: The paper should include the following items. Each bullet must be thoroughly addressed to receive full credit. Thus, there should be several paragraphs for each section. If there is no information for a particular requirement (ie. prevention), it still needs to be addressed with citations to back up your claims. statistics about the disorder demographic differences for the disorder. An abstract is required. APA format is required including a title page, abstract, headings, formatting, in-text citations and references. Basic formatting is 1” margins, double spacing, Times New Roman, and 12 pt font. Additional APA resources will be posted in the online classroom. The textbook, lecture notes, and at least 3 empirical journal articles should be used as references. Empirical journal articles are those that include original research studies and can be located in the school library (ie. Psycarticles). To see if the journal is empirical, please check that there is a methods, results, and discussion section. Under methodology, it will say empirical/experimental, as well. Please note that books are not empirical journal articles. You must have all three journal articles integrated throughout your paper in order for you to receive full credit for this requirement. Wikipedia and other resources that are not credible cannot be used. You may use additional credible sources, but they should be minimal and used in addition to the required sources listed. Please do not submit until you’re sure the paper is complete (no later than the due date). If you accidentally submit it, please go back to your original submission and upload the new document (as long as it has not been graded yet). The assignment needs to be in a .doc or .docx format. I will not accept any other format. If you do not have Microsoft Word (Microsoft Works does not work), then please visit the library on campus or your local library for access to this program. There are also open office formats you can use online. It is your responsibility to ensure you’ve submitted a valid document (a document that can be opened). The assignment needs to be submitted to the research paper dropbox, which can be found by clicking on the assignments tab on the left hand side of the classroom>clicking on the research paper link>uploading your document. It is your responsibility to check for an exclamation mark in the gradebook and/or rechecking that your submission was successfully submitted by going back into the dropbox. All information presented must be in your own words AND include citations and references. Plagiarized papers will result in an automatic zero. Thus, there should be less than 10% similarity. Late and/or emailed papers will not be accepted. NO EXCEPTIONS! This assignment is worth 100 points
