Cultural Resistance in Nigeria
Description
This dissertation is part of a degree in politics and international relations. The literature review should focus on the concept of cultural resistance. It should define the term culture, then resistance, then the overall concept of cultural resistance as defined by Stephan Ducombe (maybe rapidly the developement and evolution of this concept) Then it should go back to the relation between art and politics/social change. and put into confrontation the defendors of ‘art for art sake’ and the defendors of engaged art. Then post colonialism is introduced (as it is my scope of study and it is relevant to the context of Nigeria) as Senghor said ‘: art for art sake is a limited and euroscentric view on art and creation (…) Art is functional. It is this free space where we can experience new ways of seeing and being and develop resources for resistance’ (1956). So should be developed what cultural resistance would mean in a postcolonial perspective. The potency of the elements of cultural resistance should also be also explained all along: power of languages, stories, importance of emotions, identity, aesthetic…) In all the parts Id like confrontations between several authors. Please keep the sentences short and simple. I am not an english native and Id like the style to be coherent with the rest of my writing. For the orientation of my research , I ll upload my dissertation so far in which you might find my introduction and methodology useful.
