RESEARCH QUESTION

What are the main drivers of successful project delivery in tunneling works?

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES

In this assessment you are required to develop an appropriate Research Design for your research topic/question. First you need to specify the objectives of your research. Remember that the objective(s) connect your research question to research design and specify what exactly is performed in the research [Limit – 300 chars].

1.To investigate factors that lead towards improved project time

RESEARCH DESIGN

You should try and describe the research design in a bulleted format that represents detailed steps of the design and their sequence (avoid writing paragraphs). First choose the appropriate method and then go into more details based on references that you find on the appropriate methodology. The methodology should align with the research question and objectives of the research, as well as the type of data that is used. Related factors and variables as the focus of study need to be specified carefully. If you are using secondary data, such as a property database, describe the framework that will guide how you might achieve your research aim using the data. Your research design must clearly frame the steps that will be taken in research as an action plan with proper citation for references associated with each step [Limit – 2,500 chars].

–
Using Survey Method see below structure:

–
The survey that was undertaken was split into two variables, with each survey focusing on a specific variable.

Section 1:

–
First section of the survey will look obtaining data from construction site in relation to the main/new processes involved in tunneling operations.

–
Section one’s format will follow a similar structure to (REFERENCE……..) (INFORMATION REGADRING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOURS AND THE REFERENCE ONE. IS YOURSMAPLE SIZE LARGER/SMALLER etc ).

Section 2:

–
The second section will be issues after all respondents of section one have been completed an obtained, section 2 will follow (REFERENCE a rating survey). Using a rating system to allowed us to anlayse the importance of the processes involved within tunneling works.  These questions will be answered based on importance scale from 1-10

–
The sample size involved with this survey will be ####, consisting of construction companies who specialises within tunneling operations. The reasoning involved with this sample size solely due to the approached based from (RREFERENCE  CONSTRUCTION SURVEY IF YOUR SAMPLESIZE IS LESS OR MORE STATE WHY)

Content Analysis

Section 1:

–
Was coded based on the answers involved similar to the format within (REFERENCE  SURVEY THAT HAS TALLIED ANSWERS). Applying this format to our survey  allowed us to group together similar answers/processes. These grouped answers were then coded creating categories involved (PUT THE ANSWERS IN HERE). allowing us to understand the most popular processes involved with the works.

–
This data was then collated and displayed in a matrix structure like (FIND A MATRIX SURVEY). The ‘codes’ will be displayed along with the number of counts of each answers as well as the over percentages. The data was then commented on .

–
Using a matrix allows a clear understanding of the information collected, yet further analysis is to be undertaken.

Section 2:

–
The collated answers from section 1 will then be taken an and put into a scale of importance rating these processes from 1-10 of level of importance. The same codes used within section 1 of the survey will be used. These codes with then be represented within a table displaying the counts along with the percentage and a tally based on the rating allowing us to understand the total level of importance each process has.

–
This data will no provide indicators as to which process is the most important in relation to tunneling works procedures, this in turn also allows further research to be performed on the topic of the least important processes and if they could potentially be removed.

Content Analysis (Correlation)

–
Correlation between the two variables involved in the research took on a similar approach to( POTENTIALLY FIND SOME ANALYSIS OF A BAR CHART AND CORRELATION LINE) allowing us to correlate the most popular processes vs the importance

–
Information from section 1 allowed u to anlayse the processes involved to identify and compare the most popular processes across all the subjects when collated and displayed within a bar chart. A correlation in relation to section to can also be made in turn through displaying a line graph involving the level of  importance based on the Reponses Therefore allowing us to understand the level of importance vs the most popular processes.

Design Limitations

–
Discuss limitations of the survey, things like not all construction companies could be involved, use of only companies involved with tunneling works, although there are potential for large amount of tunnel works to be done, if there are only done by say 2/3 companies then the processes between them will most likely be quite similar. All tunneling works are different some processes may be involved in one site therefore due to their circumstances it is most important for them but for another construction company they may not need that processes as therefore potentially label it less important.

DATA COLLECTION PLAN

Further describe the data collection plan for your chosen strategy above. Use the terms and justifications presented to you in the lecture. If you are using secondary data, such as energy consumption based on billing information, describe the type of data you plan to access, and the variables you expect to analyse. Also comment on the reliability of the data and its source. You should include as much detail as possible about: potential sources of data, types of questions, sample sizes, length, participants, ethics considerations, etc. [Limit – 1,200 chars].

–
Your collecting data process will be similar to (REFERENCE SOMEONE DATA COLLECTION PLAN) using internet/construction forums whatever.

–
Reference other articles related to your topic or not as long as the process to obtaining that data is similar to the one your doing.

–
Potentially reference another construction or any survey as to how your subject were selected (YOUR LOOKING AT SPECCIFCALLY CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES THAT DO TUNNELLING WORKS)

Discuss ethic and confidentiality, as well as potential for processes to potentially be stolen by other companies, etc issues that mid happen cause of the survey. Potential for an employee to answer something that is illegal (e,g some worker answers some processes involving using asbestos now other companies could potentially now they are using illegal products and report them therefore rival companies could potentially sabotage competitors ) therefore describe how you would stop these things from occurring, anonymous submission etc.

REFERENCES

List the references used in your research design in HARVARD format. Ensure that they are fully and correctly cited.
