First component: Read Clayton’s Religion and Science – Chapter 1 Second component: Compose your reflection essay Your reflection essay should respond to one of the following sets of discussion questions: 1. If there was not a clear winner, what do you think was the best argument that the theist brought? The best argument by the naturalist? 2. Were there any points in the debate where their beliefs were simply incommensurable – points at which they really could not establish any common ground as a basis for productive discussion? See if you can identify two or three of these points. 3. Clearly, this naturalist and this theist were working with some conflicting assumptions. Can you identify some of the deeper-level assumptions that each one held?
