Nutrition and sports performance
The field of sports nutrition is a growing field that requires a command of general nutrition and exercise science. Each of the six nutrients has a role in the health and proper functioning of the human body. Physical activity places extra demands of the body, increasing the importance of the nutrient requirements in the diet. As a sports nutritionist, it is extremely important that you educate your athlete when it comes to choosing the correct foods/nutrients that best suits there body and activity level. Your athlete needs to know the latest Dietary Guidelines for Americans, what the recommended dietary allowance values represent to prevent deficiency conditions in healthy individuals, reading food labels correctly, and understanding the roles and functions of micro and macro nutrient ingestion and how those nutrients are digested, absorbed, transported and assimilated. Discuss the following questions: 1.What is sports nutrition? Is it applicable only to competitive athletes? Define your answer. 2. What are the six nutrient categories? What are some of the similarities in the digestive processing of carbohydrates, fats and proteins? How does digestion differ among them? 3. What information can be learned about a food from a food label? What are the daily recommended amounts for each food group, according to the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, along with the utilization of the MYPlate food guidance system? 4. What are the various anatomical components of the digestive system? Summarize what happens to nutrients after they are ingested. (define digestion) 5. What form of energy is most important to human physiology? Summarize the three energy systems. What energy systems are the major contributor of ATP during cardiovascular activities and weight training activities. All information must be cited throughout the body of your work and referenced at the end of all your work.
