Scenario: You have four students in your ninth-grade class who scored Basic level in Listening and Speaking after taking the AZELLA. You will be working with these students in a small group and focusing on comprehension. Review the English Language Proficiency Standards on the Department of Education website, and find the ninth-grade Listening and Speaking Domain standards. Review Standard 1: Comprehension of Oral Communications and the Basic level performance indicators. Hint: There are ten Basic level performance indicators that focus on comprehension labeled B-1, B-2, etc. Choose one or two performance indicators to focus on, and create a 30-minute small group activity that will assess those indicators. Select one or two teaching strategies from 50 Strategies for Teaching English Language Learners to use during this activity. Provide the names of the strategies that you select and include an APA-style citation for each strategy selected. Use what you have learned so far in SEI 508 about planning and delivering instruction to ELs as you create this activity. Incorporate skills and strategies that would apply to Basic level learners including grouping techniques and/or cooperative learning strategies. This assignment must be your original work. Do not adapt a lesson from the internet or another source. The use of first person is not appropriate for this assignment. Format the paper as per APA style. Include a title page, page numbers, in-text citations for each source used, and a reference list. Keep in mind that any source cited within the body of the paper must be included in the reference list—and any item in the reference list must be cited within the body of the paper.
