Overview In this Performance Task Assessment, you will assume the role of a journal club member in your practice. As a member of this journal club, you will analyze quantitative and qualitative articles and develop a voice-over presentation that discusses the components and quality of each study. This Assessment requires submission of one (1) document that includes your analysis of Case Study #1 and #2 along with your recommendations. Qualitative Health Research, 25(4), 527–539. doi:10.1177/1049732314552456 Note: You will access this article from the Walden Library Databases For this Performance Task, you will imagine you are asked to present two research articles to a journal club. You will create two voice-over Presentations to explain the parts of each article to the journal club. Please review the Rubric to determine what is necessary for meeting the requirements. The Director of Clinical Education at Fallsview Hospital has asked you to present two research articles to a journal club at the hospital. One article is a quantitative research study and the other is a qualitative research study. In addition, he has asked you to provide a refresher to your peers on the parts of a research article to help them better understand research in the nursing field. The presentation you submit will include two sets of 2-3 pages with audio narration for each slide. Research Methodology: Analyze research methodologies Quantitative Presentation: 1. Provide a brief overview of the parts of a research article. 2. Clearly Describe the purpose of the study 3. Explain and describe the type of research design used. 4. Describe the data collection methods that were used 5. describe quantitative data collection measures and tools 6. Analyze any plans for data analysis 7. Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the research Your first presentation should include the following information: • A title slide for your journal club presentation • A brief overview of the parts of a research article as a refresher to your peers in the journal club Using the Quantitative Article by Sand-Jecklin, K., & Sherman, J. (2014), identify the following information: • Article citation • In your own words, describe the purpose of the study • Explain the type of research design that is used • Describe the data collection methods that were used • Explain the data collection measures and tools • Analyze any plans for data analysis • Describe the strengths and weaknesses of the overall research design Qualitative Presentation: 1. Provide a brief overview of the parts of a research article. 2. Clearly describe the purpose of the qualitative study. 3. Explain and describe the type of research design used. 4. Describes the sample selection used in the qualitative research study. 5. Describe qualitative data collection methods. 6. Describe plans for qualitative data analysis. 7. Analyze and Identify strengths and weaknesses of the qualitative research study. Using the Qualitative Article by Walsh, A., Meagher-Stewart, D. & Macdonald, M. (2015), identify the following information: • A title slide for your journal club presentation

• Article citation • In your own words, describe the purpose of the study • Explain the type of research design that is used • Describe the sample selection • Describe the data collection methods that were used • Analyze any plans for data analysis • Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the overall research design Provide voice-over narration for each presentations, including the strengths and weaknesses of the types of study design. Note Analyze multiple, relevant sources to explain principles and concepts relevant to nursing practice. Provides an in-depth description of the key parts of the research articles and demonstrates a thorough understanding of both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. Use supporting material to support a claim. (AWE 2; Use of Evidence Conclusions identified are appropriately connected to the numeric information.) Argument for a decision or recommendation incorporates appropriate quantitative data as evidence.
