Stanford Victim Statement
Read the Stanford Victim Statement and write a 1-2 page (1.5 spaced) thought piece that addresses the following questions: 1: Discuss any injustices, discrimination, or biases you identified after reading the letter. 2: Apply either the Social Ecological Model or the Social Cognitive Theory to illustrate the interaction between different levels (individual, environmental, etc.) that can lead to social injustice or bias. For this, give an example for each level/construct of the theory you choose. (Example at the interpersonal level of the SEM: Parental influence on one’s feelings of privilege and social standing; i.e. how parents handle situations where their children do something socially or morally unacceptable. Example of personal factors of the SCT: One’s beliefs about what constitutes sexual assault when someone is intoxicated.) 3: ADVANCED SPECIFICATIONS (Complete for the opportunity to earn an E): Identify at least one biased thought or judgment you had toward the victim or perpetrator. What made you have that thought? What helped you to recognize the thought as bias? What could you think, say, or do to challenge the biased thought and investigate more?
