Pathophysiology, any relevant surgical information and the pertinent anesthetic considerations for management of the infectious disease.
DIRECTIONS: 1. Students will individually research and write a paper on an infectious disease topic. The paper will discuss the in-depth pathophysiology, any relevant surgical information and the pertinent anesthetic considerations for management of the infectious disease. 2. The paper will be submitted in APA format, including a title page and a reference page. Please include an introductory paragraph and a concluding paragraph. Use paragraph headings to keep the information organized (Introduction, Patho, Anes Considerations, Conclusion). Direct quotes need to be placed in quotation marks with citation of the page number(s). Use minimal quotations; paraphrasing is more appropriate. More than likely, each sentences will have a reference since you yourself did not originate the thought or work. The body of the paper should be approximately 5-7 pages. Do not include an abstract. Write in the third person. Use your APA book to review proper grammar if you are unfamiliar with this. 3. The introduction should state what the topic is, why it’s important, highlights of the pathophysiology, and the main anesthetic considerations. Example: This paper will discuss the importance and identification of community-acquired pneumonia. This topic is important to anesthetic providers because the CDC (2016) has classified this disease as an epidemic. The current infection rate is … (CDC, 2016)…….. The patho of community-acquired pneumonia will be detailed. The unique ability of bacterial pneumonia to utilize nucleotides ….contributes to the virulence of this disease.….. …….The main anesthetic considerations are oxygenation, ventilator management, and infection control. This paper will describe each of these three processes in detail. This establishes for the reader the layout of the paper. The conclusion should restate (but not directly copy) the introductory paragraph. 4. Use a thesaurus! Do not use the same wording over and over. Ask a friend or family member to proof-read your work. After you finish your paper, put it away for a few days and then re-read it. Read your paper out-loud to a friend or family member. Avoid run-on sentences (if you have a sentence over 40 words, divide the information into two sentences please!) 5. Topic chosen: NOSOCOMIAL INFECTIONS IN ANESTHESIA PRACTICE (You may narrow it down to just one Hospital Aquired infection in the “Pathophysiology” section) 6. A minimum of five recent (less than 5 years old) scholarly journals or anesthesia textbooks should be used. Wikipedia is not an acceptable source. An older source may be used for historical purposes i.e. to cite the original research. MY SUGGESTIONS:
Introduction • Recommendations for Infection Control for the Practice of Anesthesiology • Definition of nosocomial infections • Prevalence of nosocomial infections • Outcomes of nosocomial infections Pathophysiology • Can discuss the Pathophysiology of just one specific infection Anes Considerations • Patient may have infection and may become septic, leading to Anesthesia having to intubate the patient • https://www.aana.com/docs/default-source/practice-aana-com-web-documents-(all)/infection-prevention-and-control-guidelines-for-anesthesia-care.pdf?sfvrsn=850049b1_4 Conclusion • Importance of reducing infections
