The link between ‘intergenerational’ and ‘intragenerational’ relationship
Description
The broad topic I am choosing for my research paper is the link between ‘intergenerational’ and ‘intragenerational’ relationship. The primary question of my thesis should be how the strength of intragenerational relationship between siblings foster intergenerational relationships between parents and adult children. I shall argue that ‘ambivalence’ in intergenerational and intragenerational relationships is an inevitable outcome of any familial relationships and should be acknowledged, controlled and probably appreciated in order to foster not only interagenerational relationships but also intergenerational ones. In this context, I will incorporate actual and psychological equity between siblings into my analysis. Moreover, I shall apply the six dimensions of solidarity to my particular family context and argue that such dimensions can reduce the effects of ‘ambivalence’. In this context, I will integrate social support and social networks and tickle the issue of family size— particularly: does a great size of social networks within a family weaken or strengthen the six solidarity dimensions of intergenerational relationships? Finally, I shall use the typology of sibling relationships as a basis to discuss the importance of strengthened intragenerational relationships to intergenerational ones and argue how it may also increase the well-being and health of parents. I shall apply all of these questions and concepts to my direct family, which consists of 4 brothers (including me), one sister, and my father and mother. *Please use the annotated bibilography articles to apply the case study*. If you cannot access them online by your own, let me know so I send them to you. You are welcome to use more than these 10 sources. But these 10 sources’ literature must be used in the first 3 pages to apply the case study thereafter. Also, incorporate public policy implications along the article (use sources if possible).
