Usually, politics is a term that leaders want to stay away from. However, every organization has politics, which often take the form of leaders understanding who in the organization, which in turn can help them be successful and form positive relationships with those people. This can be beneficial when bargaining must be implemented. In this section, you will examine the rules of engagement for principled bargaining.

Week 7:

Types of Bargaining

Principled bargaining is about not using power to bargain with others. Leaders have the positional power within organizations by default, based on their formal job title. Leaders can definitely improve their bargaining skills using principled bargaining as opposed to positional bargaining, which could lead them to create and maintain lasting positive relationships. Since leaders are the ones others look to in terms of how to conduct themselves professionally, this could result in the entire organization using these bargaining methods. In turn, this could reduce instances of conflict for achieving better results.

Prepare a PowerPoint presentation in which you present strategies and specific recommendations for improvement to organizational leaders in order to increase communication and buy-in, thereby increasing achievement and productivity. Keep in mind the significance of assessing and addressing cultural norms in your presentation so as to increase the likelihood of change acceptance while building organizational capacity.

Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, and graphics as well as speaker notes for each slide. The speaker notes may be comprised of brief paragraphs or bulleted lists.

Support your presentation with at least three scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources may be included. 

Length: 12-15 slides (with a separate reference slide)
Notes Length: 200-350 words for each slide

Be sure to include citations for quotations and paraphrases with references in APA format and style where appropriate. Save the file as PPT with the correct course code information. Upload your assignment using the Upload Assignment button below.
