Report of Findings: Each student will submit a report summarizing the findings (Use APA (preferred), or MLA format). The paper must be submitted (uploaded) in Word or RTF. The paper should include the following: A. Title Page (Follow proper format) B. Abstract: This is a summary of your activity. It should include: ● The number of your assigned unknown ● Summary (list) of the tests used to identify your unknown ● The identity of both your gram positive and gram negative organism C. Introduction: This section should include: ● Reasons why isolation and identification of bacterial organisms are important ● An overview of the techniques used to isolate and identify microorganisms (not just the ones learned in lab – Chapter 10). D. Materials and Methods: This section should: ● Name the tests and isolation techniques that were conducted, and why they were conducted. It does not need to state the specific steps of each test, but it should say what the tests determined in regards to the biochemical processes inside the bacterial cell. Include an explanation for why tests were conducted (especially if tests were repeated or additional tests were done). E. Results: The result sections should be very short. ● State the names of the organisms identified and at what point in the process the other organisms on the list were eliminated as possibilities. Tables and/or charts would be a good idea for this section.
