Considerations of the Counseling Process

You will investigate and report on the regulations of your state concerning mandatory reporting by counselors. Each state has specific laws and regulations that govern mandatory reporting standards for counselors, therapists and mental health practitioners. Your task is to locate, review and summarize the laws in your specific state to determine the mandates for reporting child abuse, confidentiality, minor’s right to request treatment and any other pertinent laws. After you have reviewed the laws of your state, provide a summary list of the key regulations along with a short description of each. Finally, state your opinion of the regulations. Are they sufficient or should more be required? review various codes of ethics that govern counselors to compare and contrast their relevance, value and impact.
