In an MLA-formatted essay of 4 to 7+ pages, and using at least four sources, choose a particular space– must be visuall– in order to analyze the power relations and power distribution of that space. While below are some sample questions, which are more narrowed-down versions of this larger, more general question, it is my hope that you think carefully about the spaces and places around you to analyze the “power” relations and power distributions that pulse in any given space. Whether the space you choose is “real,” or whether it is from the films and stories that have shaped your youth, your values, or your upbringing, think closely and carefully about how the particular layout and dynamics of that space may have helped or hurt you, your family, your community, or your immediate or long-term world. More info: Classify and Divide Method of Development:Choose a space that you visit often – the mall, In-n-Out, the public library, a park, a science lab, a performance stage, a dive bar, a coffee shop (as in the TV show Seinfeld) – and classify and divide the types of people, products, and services in order to make a statement about who or what is best served or most hurt in and by your chosen space. Ex; Process Method of Development: How does the physical layout of a store shape or influence how people shop or what they value? OR: How has the shift to online shopping(away from retail stores) reshaped both consumer culture and the consumer or person him- or herself? MUST BE VISUAL and interesting!!
