PITCHING YOUR PROJECT INFOGRAPHIC + REPORT – INSTRUCTIONS & MARKING GUIDE
BJECTIVE: Create a visual infographic and written report that clearly pitches a COMS Hons Research Essay. 1) Design an infographic that visually communicates key information about a proposed research project you wish to conduct for a hypothetical COMS Honors Research Essay (HRE). And 2) Write a 1000-word report that supports the infographic and provides more thorough details of your project pitch. Here you will build on and specify the research topic, questions, and literature located in your ‘Finding Academic Sources’ assignment. This report also explains the methods and ethical considerations for this future project. __________________________________________________________________________________________________ FORMATTING REQUIREMENTS: – Report: 12-point font Times New Roman, double-spaced. Approximately 1000 words (-/+ 250). You may use headings. – Infographic/Poster: You may use design templates from Word and other programs to help design your visual text. The visual can be in portrait or landscape orientation and should be one page. The infographic should include key elements from all sections of your report, giving a clear visual overview. Include the most important statements from your report – on your objectives, questions, methods, the literature, and your ethical considerations. Do not include all the text from the report – it’s important to consolidate the written text into the most meaningful, impactful form of visual communication via the infographic. What you choose to select and highlight (e.g. frame) is up to you! Use your judgment as the primary researcher. **Please note: Any online images that are used in your project must be in the public domain. Images are not a requirement, but Wikimedia Commons, Unsplash, Flickr Commons, ISO Republic are useful sites. __________________________________________________________________________________________ INSTRUCTIONS – The infographic and report include four key parts: 1) The purpose and importance of your proposed research. 2) The proposed research design. This section will include: Three research questions, background on your selected method(s), and a proposed plan for how you will collect data in your project. The questions should also help inform the research design and methods that are selected, helping to structure how the research can be conducted. Please refer to at least one method in this section. More methods are not necessarily better here, it must appear feasible, related to the RQs. 3) Ethical considerations, such as: If you require ethics board approval for your project and why; and/or if there are other ethics issues you are anticipating given your outlined methods and questions. 4) Three relevant pieces of peer-reviewed scholarly literature that are connected to your research questions. Provide a summary of these texts and explain how you anticipate possibly using them in your project.
