How academic writing will make you a stronger student, help you cope with all of the &’s in life, and be a stronger writer and a better critical thinker in your career (Medical Billing and Coding)
Part 2: Homeschooling ( controversial topic)
A. Academic writing is unique compared to other forms of writing because it seeks to explore an issue by collecting evidence and then formulating a persuasive argument based on the information available. Provide a one-paragraph summary of the source. At the end of the entry, cite the source in APA format. B. As a reminder, in an academic essay, a thesis is the main point you are trying to make. In this Week’s first activity, you located a source regarding a controversial topic, summarized it, and then cited it in APA format. Now that you have read the source, create a thesis that responds to the article. Your thesis statement should be no more than two to three sentences in length. C. In this week’s lecture you learned that the essential structure of an academic essay is comprised of an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. You also learned about the specific features in all each section. As a refresher, remember that an introduction provides an overview of the topic, a hook to get the reader’s interest, and your thesis. The body provides a topic sentence, as well as specific details that build upon the topic sentence and that offer specific evidence in support of your thesis. The conclusion summarizes the essay and provides closure. For this activity, you are to combine your efforts from the Locate a Source and Thesis Topic activities to compose a three paragraph response to the source you acquired. Your response should successfully develop and defend the thesis statement you developed in the thesis activity.
